Tyler Capital Ltd. (January 2006 - Present).
For this proprietary financial derivatives trading company I am currently working on the development of a brand new distributed trading and risk management platform, where I am focusing primarily on the front ends. The applications are uniquely designed to meet the demands of the company and are continually evolving in a bid to meet new and changing requirements. The new system will be used to trade interest rate futures on Euronext.liffe and CME and to monitor the traders doing so.
Working for this company has introduced me to many new concepts, not only in the information technology and software development domains but also in the area of financial derivatives trading. Perhaps of most importance is my introduction to Microsoft's .NET Framework and in particular the use of C#. In other areas I have also started using version control and bug logging in an environment where these are of paramount importance, been introduced to practical multi-threaded and distributed applications and been heavily involved in the mechanics of a high performance trading application and the infrastructure it uses. As well as learning about new technologies, my time here has also introduced me to the real working world, where time estimates must be given and deadlines met.
The work I have produced thus far has involved comprehensive testing of all components of the system, bug fixes to the front ends, a major upgrade of the risk management module and the implementation of major new functionality for broker trades. Each of these pieces of work has increased my understanding of the overall system and indirectly taught me much about interest rate futures markets.
I am thoroughly enjoying my time here and find the environment to be very pleasant to work in and one where everybody is friendly and always willing to help do whatever they can. The work place is very lively and frequently fast-paced, but whatever is happening the atmosphere comes across as being very open and sociable; something I am making an effort to develop.
